From injury to a safe return to sport
Sports Health and Rehabilitation
Sports injuries are assessed, the course of treatment is planned, and a safe return to sport is the goal throughout.
In sports injuries the goal is not simply for the pain to settle. What matters is that the athlete returns to their pre-injury level of performance safely, and that the same injury does not happen again.
How is the process planned?
Rehabilitation progresses in stages. Moving to the next stage depends on meeting defined criteria, not on time elapsed:
- Acute phase — controlling pain and swelling, protected movement
- Movement and strength — restoring joint range of motion and muscle strength
- Neuromuscular control — developing balance, proprioception and movement control
- Sport-specific preparation — graded loading of the movement patterns the sport demands
- Return to sport — assessing readiness with functional testing
Not only after an injury
Functional movement analysis and performance assessment identify risk factors before any injury occurs. A pre-season assessment makes it possible to plan a programme that both lowers injury risk and supports performance.
