Strength and balance for everyday life
Functional Exercise
Strength, balance, coordination and movement control that support everyday activity are developed through individually designed exercise programmes.
Rather than working muscles in isolation, functional exercise targets the movements you actually use every day: lifting something from the floor, climbing stairs, carrying a bag, reaching, turning.
What shapes the programme?
The content is determined by assessing your occupation, the demands of your daily life, your current physical capacity and your goals. Someone who lifts heavy loads at work and someone who sits at a desk do not need the same programme.
Which components are worked on?
- Strength — getting through daily activity without struggling
- Balance — reducing the risk of falls, particularly in later life
- Coordination — moving smoothly and efficiently
- Movement control — using the joints within a safe range
The programme is planned so that difficulty increases gradually, and it is reassessed at regular intervals.
